Cardell, William S. [A. Napoleon Girault].,. [The story of Jack Halyard] The sailor boy ; or, The virtuous family... Prepared as a guide to French translation with notes ... by A. Napoleon Girault. Philadelphia: Uriah Hunt, 1832. First edition thus (?). Duodecimo in 6s. vi, iii-vi, 19-250 pp. Woodcut illustrations in text. Original morocco backed printed boards [The spine lettered in gilt "Jack Halyard"]. A good copy, some wear and staining.

Each paragraph is numbered, and the twenty-six page "notes" offer guidance for translation into French. Worldcat locates one copy of this edition (Reeves College). See Sabin 36539 for first edition of the title attributed to Jones. The story  (Jack Halyard) was first published in 1824 and went through many editions (if the various publisher's are to be believed).  this version, however, with the French translations, appears to be the first and only.
