[China]. The Beijing Riot -- A Photo Record. Beijing: New Star Publishers, 1989. 260mm. Original decorative wrappers. Near Fine.
First edition and first printing (stated on the inner back cover) of this pamphlet giving the Chinese governments account of The Beijing Riot... Known in the west as "The Tiananmen Square Massacre". According to today's Wikipedia account "The number of civilian deaths has been estimated variously from 180 to 10,454." "Beijing experienced a horrifying counter-revolutionary rebellion on June 3 and 4, 1989. The purpose of the rebellion was to overthrow the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party and subvert the socialist People's Republic of China. It was the result of month-long political turmoil that was incited by a tiny handful of people taking advantage of the student unrest, and that spread to other parts of the country". We locate no copies for sale and only two holdings on Worldcat, Harvard and IISG Amsterdam. (#kfk883)
