Paris: Widow Benoist [au Magasin de Musique de Mme Benoist],, 1817. 16mo (123 x 80 mm), xxii, 183 pp., [2] leaves (calendar for 1817); copper-engraved frontispiece (signed Lambert), and 9 copper-engraved plates (see below); text engraved throughout (except for introductory matter and calendar). Contemporary red straight-grain morocco, gilt, edges gilt; 19th- century engraved bookplate ('Ex libris AM'), signed 'A. Marie'; some light foxing. The 4th annual volume in the series of this famous music periodical, published from 1814 to 1828, each complete in itself. This appears to be the issue on papier velin, with engravings avant la lettre, and in publisher's lavish gilt red morocco binding. The 9 plates were designed by popular artists of the period: Chasselas, Garnerey, Patras, Horace Vernet, Desmoulins, and were engraved by Lambert and Godefroy. The musical scores and lyrics are also engraved. Among the musical compositions included in this volume are some by Rodolphe Kreutzer (the violinist to whom Beethoven dedicated the so-called "Kreutzer Sonata"), Hyarinthe Jadin, Giovanni Pacini, Ignaz Pleyel, Francois Naderman, et al.. § Grand-Carteret, Les almanacks francais, 1712; Barbier, rv, 541.
